Revontulet (Northern Lights, Aurore boreale) op. 38 is an extensive tone poen lasting nearly 20 minutes. It was premiered by the Helsinki Phiharmonic Orchestra on November 1948. The title should not be taken literally. Klami himself said at the time of the premiere: "The Northern Lights can be much more than a superficial play of colours in the sky. They can be an expression of the infinite loneliness of the human spirit". The work is a firework of orchestral colours and dancing rhythms varying from tarantella to more sombre sections.
Laaja, lähes 20-minuuttinen sinfoninen runo Revontulet (Aurore boreale) op. 38 valmistui 1940-luvun lopulla. Sen kantaesitti Helsingin kaupunginorkesteri marraskuussa 1948, Jussi Jalaksen johdolla. Kyseessä on Klamin laajin sinfoninen runo. Teoksen otsikkoa ei pidä tulkita konreettisesti. Klami itse totesi kantaesityksen yhteydessä, että "revontulet voivat olla paljon enemmän kuin pelkkää pinnalista valojen leikkiä taivaalla. Ne voivat olla ilmaus ihmishengen pohjattomasta yksinäisyydestä". Teos on orkesterivärien loistetta, Klamille tyypillisiä tanssiaihelmia unohtamatta.
