The Face of the Moon an example of Salmenhaara's style at its most modern since in his later works he favoured a more neo-romantic approach. It is an enchantingly beautiful choral cycle in four movents in which the condensed eloquence of Pentti Saarikoski's poetry (in Finnish, with English translation) is perfectly matched by Salmenhaara's richly inventive musical expression.
