From the collection Other Finnish works for violin - Works for violin and piano by Finnish women composers 1886-1936 (printed book available: 9790550117198).

Betzy Holmberg (later Deis, 1860–1900) studied composition with Orla Rosenhoff in Copenhagen
and with Salomon Jadassohn at the Leipzig Conservatory, among others; Jadassohn had previously taught composers such as Edvard Grieg and Christian Sinding. Holmberg's works were often performed at concerts at the Conservatory, including movements from a string serenade (1882) and a suite for orchestra (1883). She was awarded a Mozart scholarship for her piano suite (1882).

Holmberg's Andante for piano and violin (1886) is a neo-Romantic piece in a fantasy style, evoking a larger-than-life struggle to solve a grand enigma. The echoing octaves and augmented chords create a myth-like atmosphere, while the counterpoint lends a sense of depth and grandeur. The structure is basically a sonata form, with a quirkily swinging main subject.
