The inspiration for Catacombs (2005), a string quartet by Carita Holmström came from her visit to the two-thousand-year-old catacombs, where the Christians of that time were hiding from the Roman persecution. The composer tells: "The atmosphere and history of that place gave me the idea to tell the story of a spiritual journey of a haunted group of people rising from their underground dwelling up to daylight, freedom and hope. As we well know, many groups of people in our timemust hide and flee from persecution, too."
