Description
The widely-performed Cello Concerto (1969) is the only concerto in Kokkonen's work list. It has been hailed as a masterpiece with its virtuosic and deeply affecting solo part, the rich tone and impressive rhythmic handling. The concerto is dedicated to Alvar Aalto and it was composed at the request of Arto Noras, who premiered it with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra on 16 October 1969. Noras also made the fingering and bowing for the attached solo part.
