In arranging Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in A minor for the classical guitar, Ilkka Hackman aimed to create a three-voice polyphonic texture. Due to instrumental limitations, some passages in the middle voices had to be omitted, and the bass line was simplified in a few instances. However, the original harmony has been largely preserved. The lower tuning of the second movement (5th string = G and 6th string = C) creates an effective contrast with the faster movements and provides an excellent evocation of the lute and its timbre.
