Mikko Sidoroff had Johannes Brahms's Drei Gesänge, Op. 42, in mind as an inspiration when composing his work of the same title. The poems he chose mirror the same themes as those in Brahms's work: Joseph von Eichendorff's Mondnacht is an evening serenade, a setting of which can also be found among Brahms's works (WoO 21). Robert Eduard Prutz's Atlantis tells of a sunken city and love. Wilhelm Hauff's Grabgesang, meanwhile, offers consolation to all of us who have lost a loved one.
