From the collection Other Finnish works for violin - Works for violin and piano by Finnish women composers 1886-1936 (printed book available: 9790550117198).
Agnes Tschetschulin (1859–1942) is one of the great violin virtuosos in the history of Finnish music. She was also a composer, and thanks to the popularity of her works for violin she was one of the internationally most frequently performed Finnish
composers of the 19th century.
As a nostalgic throwback to the Rococo era, the gavotte was all the rage in late 19th-century and early 20th-century music. Agnes Tschetschulin's Gavotte (1906) is no exception, channelling an aristocratic courtly elegance with dainty steps, tiny leaps, plié and twirls.
