Aho's violin concerto, composed in 1981, has its roots in literary and philosophical ideas. The work is analogous to a journey from one atmospheric state to another, from harsh constructivist beginnings, through the improvisatory character of its second movement to a dance-like conclusion. The short orchestral work Silence (Hiljaisuus ,1982), although a separate work, is intended to act as an introduction to the concerto.
This product is a study score. The orchestral material is available for hire from the publisher.
