Lotta Wennäkoski composed Ilmakehästä (from atmosphere) for flute and piano on the request of Petri Alanko right after completing Woman's Love and Life, a large suite for voice, which included a song composed to a poem Minä odotin (I waited), written by Mirkka Rekola. The composer tells: “For some reason I felt a burning desire to return to the material of that song. It was clear to me from the beginning that from athosphere would turn out completely different from the song it was inspired by - the different instrumentation alone would ensure a different outcome. It was all about recycling the material, not the approach or the execution. Starting out with the very same inkling, the same scent and the feeling, I now turned in the opposite direction.”
The first verses of Rekola's poem are also present in the duo for flute and piano, now whispered inside the flute: “I waited without breathing / maybe even left the atmosphere / and then it fell / a flower / - - -”
