Two songs from Einojuhani Rautavaara's large work All-Night Vigil (1971-1972):
1. Avuksihuutopsalmi / Psalm of Invocation
2. Ehtoohymni / Evening Hymn
All-Night Vigil stems from Einojuhani Rautavaara's vision-including childhood visit to the island monastery of Valamo in the middle of Lake Ladoga. Later Rautavaara was commissioned to set the orthodox divine service, or All-Night Vigil. No instruments are used in divine services in the Orthodox Church, and because of this the composer wanted to use the choir in as varied a way as possible.
Sungable text in Finnish and in English (translated by Matti Kilpiö and Andrew Bentley).
This product replaces the older edition ofTwo Extracts from the Vigil (ISMN 9790550095076, Chorus 86).
