Description
Moon and Sun (for two soprano soloists and mixed choir) is a setting of verses from the Kalevala, the most famous of Finland's poetic folk-epics. The Mistress of the North has "buried the moon's face in the motley stone, charmed the day's dawning deep into the steely mountainside with her song." Viitanen combines a contemporary musical style with folk ballad melodies from the southern Baltic, and applies the relative distances between the stars of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor constellations, according to his own formula.
