Minna von Knorring (1846–1918) was a popular composer of solo songs in Finland around the turn of the 20th century. Her music is characterised by a rugged narrative vein, melancholy melodies and rapid emotional shifts. Nocturne (1910) for violin and piano is no exception. Its lullabylike main section finds contrast in a dancing middle section.
