Lotta Wennäkoski tells about her Sinne for violin, viola and violoncello (2011-2012): "Composers are often asked where the ideas for their works come from. In the case of the string trio Sinne, the answer is straightforward. For a long time, I have been arranging primarily Hungarian, but
also Finnish, folk music for my small family duo. One arrangement I made of a well-known Finnish folk song turned out to be so idiosyncratic and unorthodox that it felt as if it were proposing an entirely “new” musical world of its own. This world, together with the musical material of the folk-song arrangement, then became the point of departure for the string trio as well. The first movement of the work is titled Vie (Finnish for ‘brings', ‘takes'), and the second Tie (Finnish for ‘road').
The Sinne Trio was commissioned by the Sweden-based ZPR Trio, which also gave the work its premiere at the Stockholm Concert Hall in February 2012. The title of the piece may be understood both
in Finnish (‘thereto') and in Swedish (‘Mind' or ‘soul').
