Ahti Sonninen (1914-1984) composed the ballet “Pessi and Illusia”, based on Yrjö Kokko's fairy tale with the same name, in 1951-52. After its world premiere in the Finnish National Opera in 1952 it met an unforeseen success with more than a hundred performances just within two years.
The Suite from the ballet Pessi and Illusia op. 39 for piano is arranged by the composer.
