“In a symphony everything depends upon everything else, and everything has an effect upon the whole”, is a quote from Kokkonen. His first symphony was composed in 1960 and it is from his dodecaphonic period. The sound world is at times dark, at times beautifully haunting. The rhythmic allegretto movement presents playful dialogues between the different orchestra sections.
